In Rennes, a 12-year-old student threatened a teacher with a knife on Wednesday December 13, at the Hautes-Ourmes college. The attempted attack took place in the middle of English class, during the screening of an educational film, around 10 a.m.
“The student allegedly said to his teacher in a low voice: ‘I’m crazy today, I want to kill someone, I want to kill the students who don’t like me, and the person who is in front of me, it happened in Arras, and I’m going to do the same.’ She added that she had a weapon, and asked her teacher if she wanted her to show it to her. At that moment There, the student took out an imposing knife from his schoolbag. The size of the blade is 17 centimeters“, explained the Rennes public prosecutor at a press conference on Wednesday.
A few hours after the events, the students of the Hautes-Ourmes college were in shock. Like these 4th grade students who were in class with their Spanish teacher right in the room next to the attack. They heard screams, they testify on the microphone of France Bleu Armorique: "The students ran into other rooms and she came into our room," says one of them. “The teacher sat down, she could no longer speak, she was traumatized, she was crying. We closed the doors and set tables”adds another student.
“We thought someone had broken into the school”
The teenager was then controlled by the CPE and the mediator. No one was hurt, but everyone was shocked. “We thought someone had broken into the school,” testifies a student, a few hours after the facts. “We were all panicking,” reports another. “I didn’t know it was a student, I thought an adult had entered the school. I was a little scared,” confides a schoolgirl half-heartedly.
Other teenagers are more direct and talk about real fear, especially for the youngest, like Manal: “I cried, I was afraid someone would die.” Her mother, Aziza, now reassured for her daughter, nonetheless remains surprised and shocked: “It’s never happened before, it’s the first time, it’s scary!”she confides to France Bleu Armorique.
Maryline, accompanying student with a disability (AESH) in college, think especially of the English teacher: “She must be traumatized. I can’t imagine what state she might be in. We also think of the students who were in the corridors and who attended. I have a thought for everyone.”
The perpetrator was hospitalized in a specialized environment for the time necessary for treatment, announced the Rennes public prosecutor’s office. The “judicial restraint” measure to which she was subject was lifted. A psychiatric examination concludes that the minor who attempted to attack a teacher with a knife is “dangerous to herself“, according to the prosecution.
