“I walled myself in silence”, Leïla Bekhti, who disappeared from the radar screens, explains in a long publication

Gérard Darmon, Gad Elmaleh, Tomer Sisley, Géraldine Nakache Isabelle Adjani… If many actors have already spoken out about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict which has been raging since October 7, 2023, other personalities have simply preferred not to publicly take the speech on the subject. This is the case of Leila Bekhti who has long remained silent about this terrible news. A silence that Tahar Rahim’s partner finally wanted to break this Tuesday, November 21, 2023.

While more than 13,000 people have been killed to date in Gaza, including more than 5,500 children, the 39-year-old actress spoke via her Instagram account.

“For weeks, I have been gripped by horror. The unbearable images of innocent people left to their own devices haunt me. The images of children under the rubble that reach us every day paralyze me. My words have abandoned me and I walled myself in silence”she began.

A message of love and peace

“In Gaza, hospitals, schools, mosques, churches are targeted by bombings. There is no more water, food, electricity. The residents have nowhere to go, nowhere to take care of yourself”she continued before recalling “the horror committed against Israeli civilians”.

“I pray that all the hostages return home unharmed and can be reunited with their families. I pray for the Palestinians, who have suffered occupation, colonization and apartheid for years. Their human rights and dignity should not be topics for debate”recalled the actress who concluded by insisting on the fact that we should not fall into the trap of those who “are trying to make us believe that we can no longer live together.”

“That our hearts calm down, that they find empathy and humanity, that is what we have most precious,” she concluded. A publication that Internet users were unable to comment on. The actress actually wanted to deactivate this functionality, most certainly to counter any outpouring of hatred.
