Lenny Kravitz is this indomitable, unclassifiable artist, as gifted in writing as in compositions, as powerful in the texts, the melodies as in the accuracy of his interpretations. Since his sensational arrival in the world of music in 1989 with his album Let Love Rule, its love rating among the public, particularly the French public who completely adopted it, has only grown. He returns with a new album called Blue Electric Light, released on May 24, 2024.

franceinfo: This new album first highlights this voice. Did you really put it live with us?

Lenny Kravitz: Yes, that’s a very nice definition. I love this album, it was an incredible experience making it. It’s a bit like the record that I hadn’t made in college before Let Love Rule, a lot of that energy came to me from that time.

I always feel very free when I make music and I think as a human being I also feel very free. It comes from living life, learning lessons, growing, maturing and then experiencing joy in the heart.

In Heaven, you talk about terror and, at the same time, you confront this image of paradise. What is your paradise like?

My paradise is within me. That way, we don’t have to look for it. He is always with you. But it’s true that we live in a very complicated world where there are a lot of dark things, so I do the best I can to keep the light inside myself.

Is the little boy you were proud of the man he has become today?

I think so. I’m in the best place mentally, spiritually, physically than I’ve ever been and yes it took a while to get here, but I’m here, I’m there. I wish I felt all this back then, when I was 20, but it wasn’t possible.

You just turned 60, but at no point do you get older, you only grow. Does that mean you always marvel at everything? That this flame is part of you?

Yes ! I thank God that it happened this way. I don’t know why, I don’t know how, but yes, it’s true that every day I’m happy to wake up. I have this thirst for life, every day. We are lucky to be here, to be healthy, to have something to do that we love and to have options in life. The rest is a bit like the garnish.

There is soul in what you say, but in the attitude, it’s very rock. Does that mean rock is definitely Lenny Kravitz?

Yes, it’s true that at the heart of me, it really is rock. But I love music and all the tones, all the colors of music, always with rock’n’roll in my heart. My dream was to become a musician. I never said I wanted to be famous. For me, it was really about playing. I would have been happy to play in a restaurant, in a small club, on the street, in a studio. It was really playing. But that’s how it happened. I’m here today, but I still love playing music as much as I did when I was a kid.
