Indochine had already sounded the alert on April 22, 2023 with our colleagues from Sunday newspaper. Faced with the current surge in the price of concert tickets, Nicola Sirkis, the leader of the group, did not fail to denounce the quest for “profit” of certain artists and producers who offer tickets that are too expensive according to him. He then confided: “Music is for us an art of sharing and communion. We have always been vigilant about the price of our tickets. The only gigs where we can’t impose our rates are at festivals, but we verifywhenever there is no abuse.”he said before denouncing: “When I see the ticket prices of some of my ‘colleagues’ I am indeed appalled. Now we live in a liberal economy system, producers and some artists want profit. Not me, not at any price. You still have to stay dignified.” This Saturday, May 6, it is Mr. Pokora’s turn to speak on this subject which remains taboo but which, above all, remains a real problem for thousands of people.

“There are plenty of artists who can no longer live off their albums”
Asked by a group of Lille fans for the regional newspaper The voice of the Norththe artist, who is celebrating his 20-year career with his Epicenter Tower, believes that there are two major factors. General inflation first: “The equipment is between 15 and 20% more expensive than on the previous tour. And the more people you put on stage, or set pieces, the more it costs. And that affects the price of the tickets.” he says first. But there is also, according to him, another problem which is that some artists have to compensate for their reduced income due to the drop in sales of physical albums. against streaming “which pays much less”. Last February, a survey of Telerama estimated that the share of live performances in musicians’ incomes increased from 30% to 75% between the 1980s and today in France, and the number of concerts has also increased from 30,000 in 2006 to 65,000 in 2017. A finding confirmed by Mr. Pokora also: “Physical sales continue to tumble and since streaming pays much less, there are plenty of artists who can no longer live off their albums and who have to go on tour”, pointed out the singer. Nevertheless, the latter claims to be the artist “who has the best value gigs.(…) What I have been doing for 20 years, I should be at 120 euros instead but I prefer that there is less in my pocket at the end but that more people could have come. I want to stay accessible”, says the 37-year-old. For his tour, Mr. Pokora offers tickets ranging from 55 euros, in category 3, to 99 euros, in gold square. High point? On June 10, at Paris La Défense Arena!
