Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin was a guest on France 2’s 4V on Thursday.
Prisca Thevenot, the government spokesperson, was attacked on Wednesday July 3 in Meudon (Hauts-de-Seine), as was a candidate of the National Rally (RN) in Savoie. Gérald Darmanin, current Minister of the Interior, first wants to “provide support to the candidates who were attacked”, and describes these acts as “unacceptable“. “We have to be careful, because something is happening that borders on the release of violence in our country,” adds Gérald Darmanin.
Regarding the security arrangements planned for the election night on Sunday, July 7, “30,000 police officers and gendarmes” will be mobilized for election night “including 5,000 in Paris and the Parisian suburbs”The Minister of the Interior thus aims to ensure that “the far left or the far right do not benefit from[s] results to create disorder, which could then give rise to other disorders.”
While Gabriel Attal is calling for a blockade of the National Rally, including by voting for La France Insoumise, Gérald Darmanin believes that “The Prime Minister is right to say that the National Rally must be blocked“, Who “only one can have an absolute majority in our country“. “But I will not vote for La France Insoumise”he qualifies.I love the police too much, I love the forces of order too much, I love the gendarmes too much to be able to vote for a candidate from La France Insoumise.“, justifies the Minister of the Interior.
