On the occasion of the release of her new single “Bruxelles je t’aime”, Belgian singer Angèle talks about her love for Belgian culture and the city of Brussels. She promises an album full of energy, like her last dreamlike clip. Angèle also remembers her French tours.
“Brussels I love you, Brussels I love you.“Since last October 21, the melody has been ringing in the 100% France Bleu playlist. If Angèle loves France and in 2019 held the place of the artist there having sold the most albums, she signs her comeback with a ode to the Belgian capital. Angèle tells us about his latest creation : a declaration of love to his city of heart where coexist two cultural communities : the Flemish and Walloons.
In his interview for France Bleu, Angela Van Laeken goes back on his desire to assert this dual identity of the city of Brussels: a multicultural city. If the singer speaks French, she “manages“in Flemish and affirms it to his compatriots:”dank I Brussel!“(thank you Brussels).
There is always this idea of the two languages which form a kind of barrier, and Brussels is bilingual.
Angèle is even delighted to sing for the first time in Flemish on French radio waves.
A trip between Paris and Brussels
For his comeback, the artist wanted to make a homage to the people of Brussels : “I love this city and then I love the people who are there too.”
It is [le clip] four minutes of travel between the station of Paris, then, we arrive in Brussels, in this very dancing end where we take everyone with us.
High in color, the clip is meant to be “dreamlike“with many atmospheres depending on the wagons, until exploding into a big final party under the confetti.
For the artist, the train is also a accelerator metaphor what did his career take a few years ago:
I have always been told about this passing train, which had to be taken. A few years ago, when everything started for me, I must admit that I did not understand anything in my life, and that I said to myself: “but what should I do?”
Everyone said to me: “It’s as if you have a TGV that you have to take it.”
A technical bug during his last Bercy
Angèle looks back on her best anecdotes concerts in France. It was marked by its last dates, in end of the tour of his last album Brol, during a technical bug on the Bercy scene before 18,000 people.
Almost in tears and touched by the emotion of his last show, the artist lost his case which allowed him to have feedback to hear himself sing: “There is a kind of great moment of silence in front of these 18,000 peopleThe incident reminded him of his first concerts in Brussels bars, by rediscovering a certain authenticity of the present moment.
Anything can happen, even on the last night of the last date of the last concert.
Dijon and its mustard-colored Zenith
By traveling all over France, Angèle was able to discover more of the specificities of France that she already knew: its regions, its inhabitants, its specialties.
His most striking discovery? Dijon mustard: “There is a room in Dijon which is painted in a mustard color. “ She also returns to a concert during a festival in Clermont-Ferrand.
Angèle will be back on stage with her new album Ninety-five which will be released on December 10, 2021.
