“I have a feeling of immense anger and enormous frustration”, declared Thursday February 22 on franceinfo Julien Bayou, EELV deputy for Paris, after the government decree establishing the 10 billion euros in additional savings in the 2024 budget. This budget cut was justified by less vigorous growth this year. It affects areas ranging from education to justice and defense. Concerning the ecological transition, more than two billion euros allocated to this sector will be eliminated.

A decision criticized by Julien Bayou. The MP recalls that“in April 2022, Emmanuel Macron declared that his five-year term would be ecological or it would not be and finally the government cut two billion euros”, he is surprised. Julien Bayou underlines that the budget “was adopted 50 days ago” by Parliament. So he sees “a madness” and qualifies the government “scam”.

Julien Bayou denounces “lies”

“Either, he adds, they made forecasts that were off the mark but in this case, we go through a amending finance bill and it goes before Parliament. Either, they had planned to do that, to announce tons of recruitment for National Education to in fact eliminate thousands of positions in the public sector.

In any case, Julien Bayou speaks of “lie” and questions: “How can we take people for idiots like this?” He believes that the government is not up to the task and that if it is “unable to anticipate anything […] then he should apologize and resign.”he concludes.
