A great emotion. On September 6, 2021, a legend of French cinema left us. Jean-Paul Belmondo died at the age of 88. And in just over two years, his family, and especially his son, Paul, has obviously not managed to mourn. This is why, when archive images are revealed to the racing driver, he cannot hold back his tears. The proof, during his appearance in “C à Vous” on France 5 this Wednesday, March 29.
Coming to discuss the report on David Hallyday that he produced, Paul Belmondo saw Patrick Cohen broadcast a tape recorder of his first victory in motor racing, at the F3 Grand Prix at Albi in 1985. In this extract, Jean-Paul Belmondo makes part of his pride in seeing his son win the race. “Very very happy, and very moved because this year is his first victory”can we hear him rejoicing before continuing: “I admit that for the nerves it’s very hard. I think it was as hard for me as for him. Me who usually when I do things I never have cotton legs, bah there I had them the whole race”.

Paul Belmondo moved by discovering the “fear” of his father
A very moving moment on which returned the one who is as good an actor as his father. “It was an important moment for me and it was also very important that my father was there. And I was able to do it in front of him so he could see my success that day.”he confides to Patrick Cohen who wished to raise the “tears” of the guest, before admitting to finding touching the fact that his father had “fear for [lui]”.
But this fear was not only due to motor racing. Indeed, two years earlier, Paul Belmondo almost died on this same circuit, in 1983, when he had a serious accident. “That circuit, in 1983, I had a very serious accident and he came to see me in the hospital so I think that’s the reason why he had cotton legs”. A touching moment that did not fail to move Anne-Élisabeth Lemoine, the columnists, and the guests of the evening.
