“I don’t want to die like that!”: a Montrealer tortured and stabbed to death following an argument

A Montrealer who went to a residence in Lachine ended up being tortured and stabbed to death after being offered a “last meal” by his attackers, the Crown said at the opening of the trial of a accused.

“It’s not fiction, but a real story about real people. She tortured Jimmy Méthot, who died of his injuries,” M explained to the jury.e Jasmine Guillaume of the prosecution, this Monday, at the Montreal courthouse.

Sitting in the accused box separated from the public by large bay windows, Véronique Manceaux, 38, remained attentive while the prosecutor recounted the crimes she allegedly committed in September 2021.

At the time, Manceaux lived in the Lachine sector of Montreal. And that evening, several people went to her house, including the victim Jimmy Méthot. Everything was going well, but at one point, a conflict broke out, said M.e Guillaume without giving further details at this stage.

Flammable liquid

“The conflict escalated, the accused shouted and hit the victim,” she explained.

Mr. Méthot would have tried to flee, but without success since he would have been caught and brought back to the living room. It was at this moment that the attackers, including a minor, allegedly served a “last meal” to their victim.

“I don’t want to die like that,” said Mr. Méthot, according to the evidence collected by the police.

These were his last words since shortly after, he was allegedly forced to ingest flammable liquid after being stabbed. He later died due to all his injuries.

Cleaning

Mr. Méthot would then have been covered with sheets before being carried into the garage of the residence.

“In the following days, there was a cleaning of the premises, you will hear from an expert who detected these traces,” explained Me Guillaume to the jury.

A forensic identification technician who went to the site made the remark at the start of the testimony this Monday.

“What struck me was the smell of bleach [dans la résidence]“, he testified before the jury.

Manceaux, who was subsequently arrested, was charged with first-degree murder as well as indignity to a corpse. Her trial opened this Monday, just after she officially pleaded not guilty through her lawyers Mare Carl Fortin Devost and Fanie Lacroix.

Me Marie-Claude Bourassa assists Me Guillaume, while judge Daniel Royer presides over the trial scheduled to last approximately one month.
