I do a dangerous job

Although the professions of firefighter and of policeman make many children dream, young people are rarer to truly engage in these bodies. And for good reason: these are dangerous jobs that require extreme commitment and composure.

But they are not the only ones risky jobs : we think less about fishermanto prunersto farmers and to rooferswhich nevertheless have very high proportions of deaths.

How do you experience this share of risk inherent in your activity on a daily basis? Do you choose to exercise such a profession for the adrenaline it provides? Can you continue to work after an accident or trauma that occurs in the course of work? How to compartmentalize private and professional life?

To evoke this daily life, where the risk is always present, Geraldine Mayr receives Marc Verillotte. He was an operational member of the RAID (Research, Assistance, Intervention, Deterrence) from 1998 to 2018. He participated in the operation concerning Mohamed Merah, those of the Hyper Kosher and those of November 13, 2015. At the heart of RAID published by Editions des Arènes, he confides in reporter Karim Ben Ismaïl.

He tells us about his journey, the motivations that led him to choose this profession, his way of managing risk and why he preferred to retire. He thus delivers a fascinating testimony, not only on the daily life of a risky profession, but also on the commitment of these men and women.
