Fabien Roussel, national secretary of the French Communist Party, was the guest of “4 Truths” of France 2, Tuesday July 4.
The night of Monday July 3 to Tuesday July 4 was calmer, after significant violence the previous nights in France, following the death of young Nahel, killed by a policeman. “I totally disassociate myself from the words of Jean-Luc Mélenchon and some of his deputies, who refused to call for calm and who legitimized this violence by saying ‘it’s normal, it’s a revolt'”, specifies Fabien Roussel, national secretary of the French Communist Party, guest of the “4 Truths” of France 2, Tuesday July 4. The latter calls for calm and believes that there is a need “of order”of “justice” and of “respect”.
“Let’s put work back at the heart of the project”
The President of the Republic must receive, Tuesday, July 4, mayors affected by the violence during the riots. Do we need more resources? “What they’ve had under city policy barely makes up for what they’ve lost in recent years in endowments. It doesn’t meet the needs they have for schools, sports and cultural facilities”believes the national secretary of the French Communist Party.
What should be done ? “It’s a question of deep society. It’s a serious crisis that we are experiencing. Let’s put work back at the heart of the project. We can make the most beautiful cities, the most beautiful neighborhoods, renovated… if behind there is always unemployment, social segregation, we will not get out of it”assures the politician, also a deputy from the North.
For Fabien Roussel, the question of the police presence remains crucial. “You have to listen to the mayors. […] They are the ones who complain that a police station has been closed there, that the police force has been reduced in their sector, including in the gendarmerie sector. […] We are calling for local police, we need to reconcile the police with the inhabitants of these neighborhoods”he says.
