Three days after N’Golo Kanté’s package, announced by his Chelsea club, AC Milan sent some additional cold sweats on the backs of the staff of the France team. The international goalkeeper Mike Maignan, less than a month before the start of the World Cup, has indeed been injured again. Stefanio Pioli, the coach of AC Milan, announced at a press conference on Friday, October 21, that the injury to the left calf of the lining of Hugo Lloris was going “I think, keep him away from the pitch at least until January”.

But the Lombard club, contacted by AFP, clarified that these words concerned the deadlines of the club, whose last meeting, before the truce devoted to the World Cup, will be disputed on November 13. The resumption of Serie A is only scheduled for January 4.

At 27, the former Lille goalkeeper had become an essential part of the transalpine team, crowned Italian champions last season. International since 2020, he started in the cage for the France team during the penultimate match of the Blues in the League of Nations against Austria, on September 22, the date of his injury.

The relapse of Mike Maignan casts a shadow on the horizon of the goalkeepers at the Blues. Behind Hugo Lloris, three other men can claim the two substitute places. Alphonse Areola, the former goalkeeper of PSG, is one of them, but also Alban Lafont (Nantes) and Steve Mandanda (Rennes). The latter two had been called up in September to compensate for the packages of Lloris and Maignan, already injured.
