Guest of France Inter this Saturday, the president of the International Monetary Fund draws up a positive assessment of this international summit. “I am optimistic”, reacts Saturday June 24 on France Inter Kristalina Georgieva, managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), after the Summit for a new global financial pact organized Thursday June 22 and Friday June 23 in Paris. Around Emmanuel Macron, around forty Heads of State and Government spent two days discussing international finance, the climate and poverty.

“We brought energy to this room and focused on really important topics”, continues Kristalina Georgieva. The Managing Director of the IMF points in particular “debt progress”, with the conclusion of negotiations on Zambia: a restructuring of the Zambian debt, more than two years after the country defaulted in 2020. “It gives us a model”, insists Kristalina Georgieva.
“According to our analyses, it is clear that we must tax pollution. If we do not price carbon emissions, we will not be able to meet the commitments of the Paris agreement”.

“We must start looking for new sources of funding”, acknowledges the Managing Director of the IMF. She therefore does not say she is opposed to Emmanuel Macron’s idea of a global international tax on maritime transport, plane tickets or even financial transactions.“There are sectors where there has been no fiscalization or taxation for the moment. We have to talk about it”, she points out.
