Emmanuel Macron launches the match with the National Rally. The Head of State, on a state visit to Germany, proposed on Saturday May 25 to debate with Marine le Pen before the European elections. This three-day state visit is the first state visit of this level since Jacques Chirac, 20 years ago and it is anything but a coincidence in the home stretch before the June 9 election.

During his visit to Berlin on Sunday, this time he said it loud and clear, yes, Emmanuel Macron wants to enter the ring against Marine le Pen. “I am not a candidate for the European elections, on the other hand, unlike many I am not getting used to the idea that the National Rally would be a party like the others. So, when it went to the top of the polls, I considered that this party, which through its ideas threatens Europe, well it is the responsibility of the President of the Republic to remove these ambiguities”, launches the head of state.

An exceptional but fully accepted debate is justified by Emmanuel Macron always with the same strategy: dramatize the issue. “There is a form of fascination with authoritarianism that is born in our own democracies. But we forget to ask ourselves what this Europe would be like if the nationalists had led it in recent years. We would not have had the vaccine in as a European, we would have abandoned Ukraine to support Russia, and therefore the story would not be the same”asserts the head of state.

Emmanuel Macron is due to do it again this Monday with a speech on Europe in Dresden, a city in the east, bombed during the war, which has now become a stronghold of the AFD, the German far-right party. Just before, another symbol, the Head of State decorated Serge and Béate Klarsfeld with the Legion of Honor, the emblematic couple of the fight for the memory of the Shoah who recently aroused controversy, annoyance and incomprehension to the Elysée, believing that the National Rally, “became frequentable”entered “in the circle of Republican parties”.
