The founder of La France insoumise assures France 2 that he “feels capable” of leading the government in the event of a victory for the left, but that he will have to “wait” to decide between the allied parties.
Run for the post of Prime Minister in the event of a victory for the left in the legislative elections of June 30 and July 7? “I feel capable of it”but it will be necessary “to wait for”replied Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Wednesday June 12, on the set of “8 p.m.” on France 2. “I don’t eliminate myself, but I don’t impose myself”.
While La France insoumise and the Socialist Party announced at midday “a deal” on the distribution of constituencies between the left-wing parties with a view to the election, the founder of LFI pleaded for “stick to the formula” proposed by the national secretary of the PS, Olivier Faure, to decide who would lead a possible government of the “new popular front”: “It is the largest parliamentary group which proposes.” “Proposing does not mean imposing”he however qualified.
The left-wing parties reached an agreement very late in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday to share almost all of the 577 constituencies for the early legislative elections. It is, as in 2022, the Insoumis who will present the most candidates, but the number of constituencies reserved for the socialists is increasing sharply, after their good score in the European elections.
LFI will have 229 candidates, the Socialist Party 175, the Ecologists 92 and the French Communist Party 50, detailed socialist leaders Pierre Jouvet and Sébastien Vincini in a letter sent to members Wednesday morning. The agreement does not include Overseas and Corsica, as in 2022 at the time of the Nupes.
