“I am not a politician!”, Olivia Ruiz’s big clarification in “Télématin”

Absent from the music scene since 2016, Olivia Ruiz is finally back in the spotlight. The interpreter of “The Chocolate Woman” released a new album “La replie”, on March 1, 2024. And if her outspokenness is still there in the texts she sings, the star does not want us to wait for her on the political field. This March 12, 2024, when she was received on the set of “Telematin“, the ex-partner of Mathias Malzieu from the group Dionysos dotted the i’s.

“I am not a politician”

To Marie Portolano and Thomas Sotto, she thus confessed: “I’m not a politician, I’m always afraid when people call me a committed singer. Because for me, the word commitment speaks of something that concerns every second of life.”.

Far from mobilizing very publicly for the causes that are close to her heart, Olivia Ruiz prefers to do it her way. This is how she explained on France 2 this Tuesday morning: “So I like to say that I am poetically engaged, because it’s true that through my songs, my messages are quite clear”.

“The poetic form also allows me to protect myself”

Moreover, she readily admits, Olivia Ruiz is afraid of being too exposed, and specifies: “at the same time, the poetic form also allows me to protect myself from an expectation, sometimes, of a speech that would be more constructed than that which I will be able to provide”.

Revealed in 2001 as an unsuccessful candidate in the very first season of Star Academy, Olivia Ruiz not only has a career in singing, she is also a novelist. Another field of expression that the artist has also created for himself in complete freedom. And there too, she won’t let a label be put on her.
