The second-generation Kia Niro made its first public debut last week at the Seoul Auto Show, but without telling us too much about what shape it will take once commercialization begins. The crossover, currently offered in both hybrid and full electric livery, will have a very different design inspired by the Habaniro styling study presented in 2019 for its second generation.

Like the recent creations of the Korean brand, it plays a lot to amplify certain body features. We also note the use of black in some places, including the rear pillar, which gives a slightly curious look. The preferred formula, however, seems similar to that of the current vintage, juggling between a compact hatchback and a small SUV. The Niro will be offered in hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric livery in the Asian market, a proposition that may well be used in our market. We will probably know more in the coming months.

The GV70 is electrified

Hyundai’s luxury division, Genesis, recently lifted the veil on an all-electric version of its GV70 compact SUV at the Canton Motor Show in China.

Embedding two electric motors producing a total of 483 hp, this newcomer will increase the brand’s footprint in the electric sector, which has promised us the GV60 crossover which, for its part, is based on a specifically electric platform.

The GV70 will therefore have significantly more power than the thermal engine versions currently offered and will be able to benefit from ultra-fast charging of 350 kW to reduce the time spent at the terminal.

Here again, the precise details for our market are not available, but we can bet that those presented give a fairly accurate portrait of the North American version.
