Hydro-Québec signs a power purchase agreement with Evolugen

(Montreal) Hydro-Québec and Evolugen announce the conclusion of a 40-year electricity purchase agreement with indexation, in a context where the demand for electricity in Québec and neighboring markets is increasing.

The agreement will give Hydro-Québec access to the 263 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity of the Rivière du Lièvre power stations in the Outaouais region, which Evolugen will continue to operate. It includes the integration of the La Lièvre generating fleet into Hydro-Québec’s production planning and includes priority access rights to American markets.

Adding the power of the four generating stations located along the Lièvre River represents the equivalent of the consumption of nearly 90,000 homes per year.

Deliveries of power plant production began on December 31.

Hydro-Québec’s Vice-President, Corporate Strategies and Business Development, Pierre Despars, believes that this agreement will be particularly useful during winter peaks in consumption.
