Hydro-Québec outage for more than 200,000 Montrealers in the heat wave

More than 200,000 Montrealers are without electricity (and therefore fans and air conditioning), Thursday afternoon, while the metropolis is going through an episode of intense heat.

This represents about a fifth of Montreal households that find themselves without power. The west of the island is particularly affected.

Hydro-Québec places the blame on “the triggering of a protection mechanism on a [des] high voltage transmission lines”.

No time has been given by the Crown corporation for the return of service.

More details will follow.
