Hydro-Québec campaigning to explain its efforts in the face of flooding

As the snowmelt season approaches, Hydro-Québec will meet with the public over the next few weeks to explain the responsibilities and involvement of the government corporation when flooding occurs. .

The hydroelectric producer and distributor plans to hold a series of virtual presentations regarding spring flooding from March 13 to 28.

“These webinars will allow participants to learn more about flood management and the proactive actions taken by our teams to reduce their impacts,” the state-owned company said in a statement Thursday.

She lists some questions she will answer during these virtual meetings, which will mainly focus on the Ottawa, Gatineau, Saint-François, Saint-Maurice and its tributaries, as well as the Saint-Lawrence River.

For example, Hydro-Québec intends to detail how it intervenes during the spring flood or how it uses its reservoirs to limit the impacts. The state corporation also wants to cover the question of whether hydroelectric plants and dams are responsible for flooding.

For some webinars, a representative from the Ministry of the Environment, the Fight Against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks will offer answers. In particular, it will shed light on the particularly late flood that occurred last year in Outaouais, Mauricie and Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean.

Climate change specialists, deployed in several regions, will also be present.
