It is with relief that Johanna’s relatives welcomed the verdict of the Landes Court of Assizes. Hussein Ahmed is guilty, he brutally killed and raped Johanna Blanes, July 7, 2019 in the tunnel between Saint-Pierre-du-Mont and Mont-de-Marsan located under the railway.
This Syrian refugee had denied for three years being responsible for the murder of the 24-year-old young woman. He was eventually sentenced to 30 years in prison. In this trial, the defense pleaded acquittal and the Advocate General requested life imprisonment accompanied by a 22-year security sentence, the most significant criminal sanction.
The accused and the prosecution now each have 10 days to make a possible appeal.
