Huskies beat Carabins to advance to Vanier Cup

Adam Machart hit a touchdown with just five seconds left and the University of Saskatchewan Huskies defeated the University of Montreal Carabins 14-10 on Saturday to win the Uteck Cup.

Machart slipped through the line of scrimmage and ran 13 yards into the end zone to give the Huskies a 13-10 lead. It was their first lead since the game’s first offensive streak.

The Huskies broke the hearts of the Carabins and will now take on the Western University Mustangs in the Vanier Cup final, which will take place on December 4 at the Telus Stadium at Laval University in Quebec City.

The Saskatchewan team did next to nothing worthy on offense throughout the game, but they got up on time with 13 points in the fourth quarter. Machart also caught a touchdown pass from Mason Nyhus so kicker David Solie added a single.

In front of a excited crowd at Cepsum, the Carabins were unable to register a single touchdown during this meeting. The points came from the foot of kicker Michael Arpin, who had two field goals and missed two which resulted in two singles. The Huskies also conceded a safety touchdown.

The Carabins were trying to make the Vanier Cup final for the second time in a row. The Huskies will be there for the first time since 2006.
