They had met in high school and had been married for almost a quarter of a century. The husband of a teacher killed in the massacre perpetrated on Tuesday in an elementary school in Texas (United States), died of “grief” on Thursday, May 26, several members of his family announced.
Joe Garcia “tragically died this morning following a medical emergency”said Debra Austin, who presents herself as the cousin of the teacher, on the page of a pot GoFundMe in support of the family. “I am convinced that Joe died of a broken heart. Losing the love of his life after 25 years [de vie commune] was too much to bear”assures Debra Austin.
Joe and Irma Garcia were the parents of four children, ages 23, 19, 15 and 13, CBS News reports. (in English). The GoFundMe kitty was launched to provide for the needs of the four orphans.
John Martinez, who identifies as Irma Garcia’s nephew, also broke the news on Twitter: “It breaks my heart and fills me with despair to report that my Aunt Irma’s husband, Joe Garcia, has died of grief,” did he declare. The young American told the New York Times (in English) that his uncle had gone Thursday morning to the memorial in homage to the victims of the massacre, before “to fall” on his return home. According to a young man also posing as a nephew of the teacher on Twitter, the victim’s husband died of a heart attack at his home.

Irma Garcia and her colleague Eva Mireles, whose classrooms were connected, were both killed by 18-year-old gunman Salvador Ramos, who also massacred 19 children at Robb Primary School, Uvalde, before shooting. to be killed by the police.
