Hurricane Milton strengthens to Category 4, threatening Mexico and Florida

Described as “extremely dangerous”, the hurricane is expected to bring violent winds to the Yucatan Peninsula on Monday and Tuesday and to affect the coast of Florida, in the southeast of the United States from Tuesday evening or Wednesday.

Shortly after the passage of Hurricane Helene, vigilance is required. Hurricane Milton was upgraded to category 4 on Monday October 7 by the US Hurricane Center (NHC). The latter which alerts on the “dangerous winds” which it will bring to the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, before making landfall in Florida by Wednesday.

Qualified as“extremely dangerous”the hurricane is expected to bring strong winds to the Yucatan Peninsula on Monday and Tuesday and to affect the coast of Florida, in the southeast of the United States, “from Tuesday evening or Wednesday”according to the NHC. It became a Category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, the NHC announced Monday, with winds of up to 240 km/h. According to the US Hurricane Center, Milton “intensifies rapidly” and risks moving into category 5, the most powerful.

Faced with the threat represented by Milton, Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis extended the state of emergency declared the day before to several localities on Sunday: 51 out of 67 counties are now affected. This new hurricane is causing a lot of concern in Florida and the rest of the American southeast, a large part of which has been devastated since the devastating passage of Hurricane Helene.
