“We hope for the best, but the whole government is ready,” wrote the outgoing Prime Minister on social networks Friday evening. He is currently in Quebec and says he is “in contact with the Deputy Prime Minister [Geneviève Guilbault] and the Secretary General of the Government, Yves Ouellet.
Mme Guilbault also indicated on Twitter that “everything is in place to ensure the safety of Madelinots”, inviting the population to be cautious.
As part of his campaign, François Legault has planned to go to the Magdalen Islands on Monday, a long-planned stopover.
“I will have the opportunity to see the situation after the passage of the hurricane,” he said earlier in the day during a scrum in Laval.
the hurricane Fiona is likely to hit hard, especially in the Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Gaspésie and Côte-Nord. I want to say to all the citizens of these regions: be careful. There is a significant risk. Prepare for the worst. And we’re going to hope it goes well. It is important to follow the instructions.

He assured that the ministries of Public Security and Transport as well as Hydro-Québec “are working to try to minimize the damage”.
Saturday, François Legault was to participate in the largest militant rally of his campaign in Terrebonne, where more than a thousand activists were expected. The event is canceled under the circumstances.
Anglade and his team on the “qui-vive”
Liberal leader Dominique Anglade affirms that her team remains on the “qui-vive” and remains in communication with the other political parties to follow the state of the situation. There is no question for the moment of suspending its activities.
“We will wait to see how things will evolve,” she said on the sidelines of an activist rally in a bar in Gatineau, in the riding of Chapleau. “We want to make sure that everyone is safe, that everyone takes the necessary measures not to be victimized by anything,” she added.
She also says she spoke with her candidate for the Magdalen Islands, Gil Thériault, a little earlier today.
For its part, the Québec solidaire tour team announced that it was canceling the press briefing scheduled for Saturday morning. Party co-spokesperson Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois tweeted that it’s time for solidarity.
Conservative leader Éric Duhaime has announced that he is continuing his electoral tour as planned.
In 2018, all party leaders suspended their campaigns for a day to travel to Gatineau to show their solidarity with the victims of a tornado. The outgoing Prime Minister then announced emergency aid of one million dollars.
