A goal that can be very expensive. Hungary won 1-0 against Scotland, Sunday June 23 in Stuttgart (Germany), thanks to a goal from Kevin Csoboth after ten minutes of stoppage time. A victory on the gong which propels Marco’s men Rossi in third place in Group A of Euro 2024. The Magyars will have to wait until the end of the group stage to find out if their three points and their goal difference of -3 are enough to be among the four best third-placed teams and thus qualify for the round of 16.

A valuable success acquired at an intense end to the match, after a meeting where the two teams neutralized each other for a long time. Better ranked at kick-off, the Scots had possession of the ball (60%), but in a completely sterile manner with only one shot before the 90th minute. The Hungarians put themselves a little more in a position to score, without really worrying Angus Gunn before the liberating goal.

The meeting was also marked by the exit on a stretcher surrounded by sheets of Barnabas Varga, after an aerial collision with Angus Gunn which left the Magyars midfielder knocked out, transported directly to hospital.

While a draw, virtually eliminating both teams, loomed, the match completely unraveled in stoppage time with opportunities on both sides. On the Hungarian side, Andras Schäfer (90th), Dominik Szoboszlai (90+1st) came up against Angus Gunn, before Kevin Csoboth (90+2nd) saw his cross attempt hit the right post of the Scottish goalkeeper. Opposite, Scott McTominay (90+7th), slightly offside, hit the bar, then Grant Hanley (90+8th) lacked conviction in his shot ten meters from the full goal.

It was finally on a Scottish corner that the scoreboard was cleared by the Hungarians. Kevin Csoboth and Roland Sallai perfectly negotiated the counter-attack to deliver their supporters and hope for qualification. They are now waiting to find out if they will be able to reach the round of 16.
