In Brussels (Belgium) the tone rose with Hungary and Poland. European justice has paved the way for sanctions against these two countries which could deprive them of billions of European funds. The journalist Julian Gasparutto is live from Brussels to take stock of the situation.
The Court of Justice of the European Union has validated the principle of “condition the payment of European aid to respect for the rule of law”Wednesday, February 16. “However, Poland and Hungary are precisely in the sights of Brussels on this issue for attacks on the independence of judges or even suspicions of corruption or conflicts of interest in public tenders”says journalist Julien Gasparutto live from Brussels (Belgium).
The European Commission has already blocked the recovery plans of two countries. “36 billion euros for Poland and 7 billion for Hungary. And it could therefore now also deprive them of European funds which are paid every year to the Member States and there too it could amount to billions of euros”continues the journalist.
