In Antioch (Turkey), a refugee camp has been erected because hundreds of thousands of Turks who have lost everything have nowhere to go. Journalist Alexandra Lay takes stock of the situation. “In this camp live a thousand people in very precarious conditions. There are many women and children. This situation is repeated throughout the south-east of Turkey“, she explains.
Health problems
The main problem is health. “There are very few showers, very few water points and latrines. We saw, just now, a little girl who was washing under a trickle of water from a tap“, reports the journalist. In addition, “they live in promiscuity, which promotes the development of skin diseases in particular”, indicates Alexandra Lay. The need for hygiene products is greatly felt.
