Hundreds of civilians were kidnapped from their villages in Nigeria by criminal gangs over the weekend of March 9 and 10. Since the beginning of the month, hundreds of others have also been forcibly taken away.
An empty school, shutters closed. Two hundred children kidnapped by armed men on March 9 in a village in Nigeria. All were in classrooms at the time of the attack. A mother saw everything, but she couldn’t do anything: “The kidnappers arrived by the dozen, some had motorbikes. They were shooting in the air, they were blocking all access to the village so that no one could come and rescue them.”
Ransom demands
In addition to these 250 children kidnapped in Kuriga (Nigeria), there are 87 people in Kajuru last weekend and 100 women kidnapped and displaced in Borno State at the beginning of the month. Ransom videos are sent by kidnappers to families or the government, who usually end up being paid, according to experts.
