Hundreds of supermarket trolleys are abandoned in the wild in Hérouville-Saint-Clair, in Calvados. The town hall has recovered nearly 600 in six months and threatens to charge the sign responsible for the inconvenience.
600 shopping carts have been abandoned in Hérouville-Saint-Clair (Calvados), near Caen, and municipal officials have been forced to pick them up for six months. “It takes time, we have other things to do”, emphasizes Jean-François, cleanliness service agent. Trolleys brought by residents from a Carrefour supermarket a few kilometers away. When they return from their shopping, they leave them in nature. Opinions of locals differ.
Collection taxes donated to associations
The collection should be taken care of by a company providing the supermarket, which does not fulfill its obligations according to the town hall. “The third time, we have to crack down on Carrefour’s wallet”, explains Mayor Rodolphe Thomas. For its part, the brand says that the frequency of collection has been increased from one to three times a week. The city wishes to donate the gains from collection taxes to associations.
