Human Rights Watch and Oxfam accuse Israel of using American weapons in violation of international law

The two NGOs sent a report to the American administration and asked that the United States follow the Canadian example and suspend its arms deliveries to the Jewish state.

The observation is clear for Human Rights Watch and Oxfam: Israel does not respect international humanitarian law. The two NGOs assure in a report that the Jewish state is obstructing the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza and that it is using weapons delivered by its American ally against civilians.

“We were able, in some situations, to gather evidence that there was not, for example, a military target in a hospital”explains Sarah Yager, director of the Washington office of Human Rights Watch.

“When Israel says it uses American weapons while respecting international law, that is simply not credible.”

According to the report, ambulances were targeted by guided missiles. White phosphorous munitions supplied by the United States were allegedly used against civilians in Lebanon, which, according to Sarah Yager, is therefore contrary to international law, but also to American law. “A partner does not have the right to use American weapons if it violates international law. In other cases, for other partners – and the United States has many – the Ministry of Foreign Affairs “do an assessment and try to understand how these weapons were used. This has not been the case for Israel and it absolutely must be done.”she explains.

This evaluation is scheduled for mid-May. Secretary of State Antony Blinken will submit a report to Congress and therefore allow parliamentarians to see more clearly on the use of American weapons by Israel.
