London police announced on Monday, July 15, that they had identified two people matching the human remains found last week in suitcases on a bridge in Bristol (southwest England). A suspect, of Colombian nationality, was arrested on Saturday and charged with double murder on Monday morning, according to the same source.
The victims were two men, Paul Longworth, 71, and Albert Alfonso, 62, the latter originally from France but a naturalised British citizen, London police said. “Albert and Paul had previously been a couple and always lived together in an apartment” from the Shepherd’s Bush district of west London, she added.
The case was initially closed as “hate crime”, in accordance with the rules of procedure, but the first elements of the investigation “do not suggest that there was a homophobic motive”a police official said.
According to authorities, the two victims had no immediate family. But other relatives have been identified and contacted. Both men had hosted and knew Yostin Andres Mosquera, the 24-year-old man arrested.
