London police announced on Monday, July 15, that they had identified two people who matched the human remains found last week in suitcases on a bridge in Bristol (southwest England). A suspect, of Colombian nationality, was arrested over the weekend and charged with double murder on Monday morning, according to the same source.
The victims were two men, Paul Longworth, 71, and Albert Alfonso, 62, the latter originally from France but naturalised as a British citizen, London police said in a statement. “Albert and Paul had previously been a couple and always lived together in an apartment” from the Shepherd’s Bush area of west London, she added.
The case was initially closed as “hate crime”, in accordance with the rules of procedure, but the first elements of the investigation “do not suggest that there was a homophobic motive”said a police official, quoted in the statement.
According to authorities, the two victims had no immediate family. But other relatives have been identified and contacted. Both men had hosted and knew Yostin Andres Mosquera, the 24-year-old Colombian national arrested Saturday and charged Monday morning with double murder.
