The lawyers of Oscar Jegou and Hugo Auradou, charged in Argentina with rape, have filed a request for dismissal of the charges and a request to return to France pending the dismissal of the charges with the Mendoza courts, franceinfo learned on Tuesday, August 27 from a local source.
The two French rugby players are charged with aggravated gang rape and are banned from leaving Argentina. A dismissal of the case would allow the two players, released from prison but forced to remain in Argentina during the investigation, to return to France. Having recovered their passports, the two men left Mendoza for the capital Buenos Aires.
A 39-year-old Argentinian woman accuses the two 21-year-old players of raping and beating her in their hotel room on the night of July 6-7 in Mendoza, after taking part in a test match between the French XV and Argentina.
The French rugby players deny any violence and claim to have had consensual sexual relations with the complainant. Imprisoned and then placed under house arrest, they were released on August 12, due to a lack of “sufficient evidence” to justify their continued detention, and must remain in Argentina for the duration of the investigation.
