After a summer spent touring the province’s festivals, Hubert Lenoir dominates the list of finalists for the next ADISQ gala with 11 nominations. If he did not win the Polaris Prize, for which he had also been shortlisted, the singer is this time nominated in prestigious categories, including that of the alternative album of the year and the author or composer of the year.
At the top of the potential winners of the great celebration of Quebec music, which will take place on November 6, are also Lisa Leblanc, Jean-Michel Blais and Les Louanges, with six nominations each. These three artists had also found themselves in the preselection of the Polaris Prize.
Hubert Lenoir’s work was also highlighted in the categories of male performer of the year, album of the year (critic’s choice), artist of the year (international influence), International Collaboration of the Year — with Bonnie Banane — and Video of the Year.
He and his team are also garnering industry nominations for the album. PICTURA DE IPSE: Direct Music in the categories of arrangement of the year (for Hubert Lenoir and Gabriel Desjardins), record production of the year, album cover of the year (for Noémie D. Leclerc), as well as sound recording and mixing.
The return of the regulars
Very few emerging or alternative artists stand out among the favourites. We are indeed witnessing the return of well-known faces to the gala, such as Vincent Vallières (six nominations), Patrice Michaud and Les Cowboys Fringants (five nominations), or even 2Frères, Coeur de pirate, Roxane Bruneau and Ariane Moffatt (four nominations).
Young shoots still manage to stand out and could cause a surprise at the gala. This is how Étienne Coppée was selected in the categories of folk album of the year and revelation of the year, in addition to an industrial nomination in sound recording and mixing (for Guillaume Chartrain).
The group Bon Enfant also garnered nominations in the categories of album of the year (critic’s choice), rock album of the year and group or duo of the year.
Apart from the category of rap album of the year, hip-hop artists take up very few places among the general nominations, unlike in recent years. Souldia is still in the running in the categories of album of the year (popular success), in addition to an industrial nomination in record production (for Christophe Martin, Kevin St-Laurent and Maxime Gabriel). Also note that Sarahmée was selected in the category of female performer of the year, among others.
Among the artists selected in the prestigious category of author or composer of the year are: Lou-Adriane Cassidy for the album Lou-Adriane Cassidy says to you: Good eveningLisa Leblanc for chic discoSalome Leclerc for A thousand works my heartHubert Lenoir for PICTURA DE IPSE: Direct Musicand Vincent Robert (Les Praises) for Crash.
All of the nominations for the gala of the Quebec Association of the Record, Entertainment and Video Industry (ADISQ) will be announced later on the association’s website.
The main gala will be broadcast live on ICI Télé on November 6; Louis-José Houde will host it for the 17th consecutive year. As always, it will be preceded by the Premier Gala de l’ADISQ, broadcast live on Télé-Québec on November 2, which will be hosted by Pierre Lapointe. The industry gala will also take place that day, at Club Soda, in Montreal; Claudine Prévost will lead the festivities.
