The commemorations of the Armistice of 11 November honored Hubert Germain, last companion of the Liberation, who died a few weeks ago.
Hubert Germain was in the spotlight during the commemorations on Thursday 11 November, marking the 103rd anniversary of the Armistice of the First World War. The former companion of the Liberation had the right to multiple tributes. First in Paris, where his coffin has climbed the avenue des Champs-Élysées, under the admiring gaze of the public, and resting next to the Unknown Soldier. Emmanuel Macron also paid tribute to him during a speech.
At the start of the afternoon, Hubert Germain’s coffin reached Mont Valérien, his final home, as General de Gaulle wished. The coffin of the last survivor of the 1,038 companions of the Liberation has arrived, in a great moment of emotion that marked the witnesses of this moment, including Emmanuel Macron. His entry into the crypt was accompanied by the Chant des Partisans. For his son, Patrick Germain, his father “is gone down in history “.
