It is by a decree published this Wednesday, April 19 that the Prefect of Var officially recorded the resignation of office of the mayor of Toulon and president of the TPM metropolis. It was expected after the conviction of Hubert Falco last Friday in the so-called “fridge” affair.
Hubert Falco is officially no longer mayor of Toulon and president of the Toulon-Provence-Mediterranean metropolis. The latter was officially dismissed from all his functions by the Prefect of Var. The prefectural decree was published this Wednesday, April 19.
“Considering that this criminal conviction constitutes a cause of ineligibility which occurred after the elections, for which the prefect is required to declare Mr. Hubert Falco resigned automatically from his mandates”it is specified.
Sentenced last Friday to three years in prison suspended and five years of ineligibility, applicable immediately, the city councilor had decided the day before to appeal the judgment of the Marseille Criminal Court.
Age 75 years old, he was accused of concealment and embezzlement of public funds. He would have used public money for his meals and having his clothes washed for several years after leaving his post as president of the Var department (1994-2002).
Hubert Falco had been mayor of Toulon since 2001.
