Monday October 16 will be the sad three-year anniversary of the disappearance of Samuel Paty, who died in the same circumstances as Dominique Bernard. A day marked by solidarity for the entire teaching community.

Their names, their faces, their professions put in the spotlight. Monday October 16, the tribute to Samuel Paty will also be that of Dominique Bernard, two inseparable destinies shattered by terrorism. In nursery and primary schools, teachers will have to adapt to the age of the students with one key word: reassure, soothe. They will approach this tribute without following a program to the letter but each in their own way.

Overflows will be punished

In middle and high schools, teachers will meet together for a time of sharing between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. It is at the beginning of the afternoon, at 2 p.m., that they will be silent, with their students, for a minute of contemplation before debating. In past years, tributes paid to Samuel Paty, assassinated for showing caricatures of Mohammed in class, have sometimes been punctuated by incidents. These excesses are still feared today. “Since Charlie Hebdo, we have known that there can be destabilizing and sometimes aggressive reactions”, said François de Sauza, co-founder of the Vigilance Collèges-Lycées collective. Any excess during the tribute will be punished.
