The Minister of the Interior provided new details on the security system planned during the Olympic Games, in particular on the occasion of the opening ceremony, organized on the Seine.

A QR code system is planned for residents, traders, tourists and people working in this area along the river. The information provided by the former mayor of Tourcoing (North) complements that revealed by the Paris police prefect Laurent Nuñez, in November 2023, to the Ile-de-France newspaper.

A mandatory pictogram for traveling freely along the Seine and near sensitive sites

“Pedestrian or non-pedestrian, you must present your QR code and your identity document during the check”insists the minister to the Parisian. The white and black barcode will be mandatory for people wishing to circulate within the security perimeter (known as Silt, for Internal Security and the Fight against Terrorism) set up for the ceremony. In addition to the quays, this zone established along the Seine will extend from the Trocadéro to the Porte de Bercy, passing through the Louvre sector, the Tuileries gardens or the Île de la Cité.

Traffic restrictions will be active in this area.a week before” the opening ceremony scheduled for July 26, “from the moment the security perimeter becomes watertight”. From then on, it will be compulsory to present a QR code from your phone or in physical format to move freely in this sector. The system will also disrupt public transport, underlines Gérald Darmanin: “In this area, we will be able to travel by metro, but not stop.”

It will nevertheless be possible to cross this sector, without stopping, by crossing specific points. In these situations, it will not be necessary to have a QR code. There will be four crossing bridges open to automobile traffic: Notre-Dame, Sully, Iéna and Invalides, plus a pedestrian bridge, the Léopold-Sédar Senghor footbridge. Five bridges, therefore, which will allow crossing the anti-terrorist perimeter”, explains Gérald Darmanin.

Residents, restaurateurs, tourists… All affected by the QR code

Residents, barge owners, traders, workers located in the sector, the QR code concerns many people. The pictogram must be presented even by tourists and customers who wish to go to one of the bars and restaurants located within the Silt perimeter.

People invited on the day of the opening ceremony to the home of a resident of the area to observe the nautical parade from a balcony or window will also have to present a QR code.

An online platform accessible from May 10

An online platform must make it possible to generate the precious sesame essential to access security perimeters. It will be operational on May 10, underlined the minister. “You will have to give your name, first name, date of birth, etc.”lists Gérald Darmanin, who explains that this information will be used to carry out “security screenings (…) to ensure that no dangerous person can access the security perimeters”.

A campaign of “door to door” and towing is planned by the Ministry of the Interior in collaboration with the Paris town hall to help people in situations of illiteracy. “We will help people register”explains the minister. “THE law enforcement will make discernment: if a 95-year-old gentleman arrives with his coin identity, we will do the work with him.”
