“How will the ministry succeed in recruiting enough teachers to implement all these measures?” asks the FCPE

The Minister of Education announced a series of measures on Tuesday to raise the level of students, including the return of grade groups to middle school. “These groups should rather be groups of specific needs and not lead to a segregation of students by class at the school level,” according to the FCPE.

“How will the ministry manage to recruit enough teachers to implement all these measures?”asked Ghislaine Morvan Dubois, member of the national office of the Federation of Parents’ Councils (FCPE), on franceinfo on Tuesday, December 5.

Among the government’s measures to raise the level of students, a new mathematics test in first grade: “It’s positive because we realize that a certain number of students who had difficulty accessing certain higher education courses no longer had any scientific and mathematical culture at all”she estimated.

The government also announces the return of level groups to middle school: “We draw the attention of the minister and the entire educational community to the Pisa survey which has just been published. It clearly indicates that these groups should rather be groups of specific needs and not lead to segregation of students by class at grade level”she warned.

Another measure, the family will no longer have a say on a possible repeat of a student: “It is not by putting them back in exactly the same conditions which led to failure that we will be able to succeed”she reacted.
