With temperatures expected to rise this summer, getting around without suffering too much from the high temperatures can become a real headache when using public transport.

On trains, there are sometimes air conditioning units that break down in the middle of a heatwave, or passengers are stuck in the middle of a cold snap. With climate change, these extreme phenomena will multiply. So are our trains ready? In Vienna, Austria, a brand new train has 188 sensors and several million data on board. For example, there are sensors on each seat, in the toilets.

Financed by the State, the intercity trains will run on the Paris Limoges and Paris Clermont lines at the beginning of 2027. In the meantime, right next door, the data is being analyzed and today, there is clearly a small temperature problem on a seat. The manufacturer of the train, which is to run until 2070, must anticipate global warming. For current trains, the air conditioning does not work above a certain temperature for Intercity trains dating from 1976. The air conditioners are gradually being replaced.
