On the 37th day of the war in Ukraine, Friday the 1st April, impossible not to discuss the conflict in class, with the students. But how to inform them while reassuring them?
In Saint-Lô (Manche), second-grade students talk about the war in Ukraine. On the board, the image of the pregnant woman, evacuated from Mariupol (Ukraine) and died a few days later from her injuries. Teachers try to explain and decipher these images, which can be shocking for young people. “The teacher, she knows about it, whereas, for example, if we talk about it at home, our parents don’t have all the information”says a student.
Media coverage of the conflict allows students to follow the war hour by hour. The teachers adapt and also follow the evolution on Twitter. “I read, before, what they saw. And that is important so that we are not disconnected”, says Christine Cauhapé, history and geography teacher at Le Verrier high school in Saint-Lô.
