Wednesday, September 28, the section “Behind our labels” of the JT 13 Hours is interested in the origin of frozen vegetables.

In supermarkets, bags of frozen vegetables are often stamped French, but where do they really come from? “I try to look at the origin of the products as much as possible and to buy French as much as possible”, says one consumer. In France, half of frozen vegetables are produced abroad. Thus, the origin of flat green beans sold in bulk is not indicated, although the regulations require it.

The beans are cut in the bag, which puts them in a gray area. “From the moment a vegetable is processed, there is no longer any obligation on the origin”, explains Camille Dorioz, campaign manager at Foodwatch France. Contacted, the consumer service assures journalists that “the supplier tells us that the origin of the beans may vary depending on the sachets”. Their provenance cannot therefore be known. A fruit and vegetable label from France has been created in order to know the origin of the products.
