Plan ahead! Roads will be blocked, diversions put in place, bans on parking here and there in Isère on July 14 and 15 during the Tour de France, especially in Oisans. On the occasion of the 12th and 13th stages, the riders will first connect Briançon (Hautes-Alpes) to Alpe-d’Huez then Le Bourg-d’Oisans to Saint-Étienne (Loire). July 10 with “l’Étape du Tour” in Alpe-d’Huez

It is a race that is not part of the “real” Tour de France but it is the same organizers who, before the passage of the peloton, reserve a stage of the Tour each year for amateur cyclists. Before the peloton on July 14, nearly 16,000 amateurs – and experienced climbers – are expected on July 10 between Briançon and Alpe-d’Huez. This year, amateur cyclists will complete one of the mountain stages of the Tour de France, from Briançon to Alpe-d’Huez. For this 30th edition of the “Étape du Tour”, arrivals are scheduled between 11:50 a.m. and 8:20 p.m. in Alpe-d’Huez.

The Stage of the Tour

Roads closed in Oisans on July 10 (Isère department)

The roads will be closed to traffic 30 minutes before the passage of the first runner and closed 15 minutes after the passage of the last:

  • Ascent to Alpe-d’Huez, D211 closed in both directions of traffic between 10:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.
  • Col de la Croix de Fer closed from 8:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.
  • Col du Galibier closed from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Col du Lautaret closed between the pass and Briançon from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • D526, between Vaujany (D526/D43a crossroads) and the Col de la Croix de Fer, closed in both directions from 9:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.
  • D526, between Rochetaillée and the access crossroads to Vaujany (D526/D43a).
  • D44c and D44 between downstream of the dam and La Carreyre (D44/D526), ​​closed in both directions from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • D1091, between Rochetaillée and Le Bourg-d’Oisans (South roundabout), closed in both directions from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Col de Sarenne between Alpe-d’Huez and Mizoën, on the D25-D25a: one-way uphill from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., one-way downhill from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

From Grenoble, two possible accesses to reach Oisans:

  • Main axis: Vizille via the N85 then the D1091. Attention, D1091 closed in both directions of traffic, between Rochetaillée and Le Bourg-d’Oisans (South roundabout), on 10/07 from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Please note, D526, closed in both directions of traffic, between Rochetaillée and the Vaujany access crossroads (D526/D43a), on 10/07 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.
  • Or via the Col d’Ornon (D526) then the D1091. Attention, D1091 closed between Rochetaillée and Le Bourg-d’Oisans, in both directions of traffic, on 10/07 from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

In Oisans and Alpe-d’Huez on July 14

After crossing the Hautes-Alpes and crossing the Savoy passes, the cyclists of the Tour de France will enter Isère by the departmental road 526 which runs along the lake of Grand’Maison. They will cross Oisans (Vaujany, Oz-en-Oisans, Allemond, Le Bourg-d’Oisans) before climbing the 21 bends of Alpe-d’Huez, the city of arrival. The roads will be closed one hour before the passage of the caravan and reopened 30 minutes after the passage of the broom wagon.

Particular attention is requested from motorists using the Rochetaillée sector: the crossing of the D526 and the D1091 will be closed from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. The department has published an order regulating parking and traffic on the departmental roads concerned during this 12th stage.

Spectators will traditionally be numerous on the climb to Alpe-d’Huez to support the cyclists. In order to ensure the smooth running of the event, parking will be prohibited in bends 20 and 21 (those at the bottom) and gendarmes will criss-cross the climb the previous days to remind you of the safety rules on bends. In bends n°7, known as the “Dutch bend”, and n°6, known as the “Danish bend”, police officers of these nationalities will be present alongside their compatriots, in support of the gendarmerie. The prefect will issue orders prohibiting the transport of alcohol, the use of barbecues and smoke bombs.

From Bourg-d’Oisans to Grenoble on July 15

The passage of the peloton, which left Bourg-d’Oisans on Friday July 15 in the direction of Saint-Étienne, will cause some disruption in Isère throughout the department and first in the metropolis of Grenoble.

A north-south diversion will be activated from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. allowing connect Grenoble to Briançon by taking the RN85 via La Mure then the RN94. A south-north diversion will be activated from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. allowing connect Briançon to Grenoble by taking the RN94 via Gap then the RN85.

A north/south diversion will be activated from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. connecting Gap and Sisteron via the Col de Lus la Croix Haute (RD1075) from Grenoble. A south-north diversion will be activated from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. connecting Grenoble via the Col de Lus la Croix Haute (RD1075) from Gap and Sisteron.

Vienna on July 15

The Tour de France will pass through Vienna on Friday July 15, on the occasion of the 13th stage of the Tour between Le Bourg-d’Oisans and Saint-Étienne. Cyclists will cross Vienne from east to west on the RD41, from Eyzin-Pinet, to Place Saint-Louis, which they will take before continuing their journey via the De Lattre-de-Tassigny bridge towards Saint- Romain-en-Gal. The runners’ route will cut the city into two parts, the North and the South. Traffic from one to the other of these two parts will not be possible between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. and traffic will be severely disrupted on each side (see map below). The municipality of Vienna therefore invites motorists and pedestrians to postpone travel at least not to be caught off guard.

  • Exit 9 “Vienne Centre” of the A7 motorway (North-South direction) will be closed from 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
  • Exit 11 of the A7 motorway (south-north direction) is strongly discouraged.
  • RN7, to the right of Place Saint-Louis in Vienne from 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
  • RN7, quai Pajot, towards Vienne center at the crossroads with the RD1407, 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
  • RN7, quai Jean Jaurès, towards Grenoble at the crossroads of Cours Marc-Antoine Brillier, 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
  • Urban transport lines will also be disrupted.
