Why change your equipment when you can extend its lifespan? That is the question !
Faced with rising prices and inflation, it is becoming more and more difficult for many households to buy new, yet essential items. To overcome this problem, here are some economical and ecological tips to extend the life of your everyday objects!
Did you know ? On average, there are 99 pieces of electrical and electronic equipment per household, 6 of which have never been used (Ademe).
Buy sustainable
Since January 2021, the repairability index must appear on 5 products: smartphones, laptops, televisions, porthole washing machines and electric lawnmowers. This index will let you know if the object is eco-designed, adaptable to technological developments and if it is easily repairable (availability of spare parts, welded opening, type of battery, etc.). So before choosing your next PC, look at this note, but also at the energy label or even the ecological labels!
Buy a refurbished or used product
Reuse an object that has already been used? It’s entirely possible ! Often purchased at a lower cost, reconditioned and second-hand products give objects a second life. So head for the recycling centers, shops specializing in refurbished appliances or garage sales!
Maintain
To avoid any wear and tear, maintain your objects. Dust, grime, overheating… many threats exist for our equipment. So be sure to take care of them by reading the conditions of use and maintenance of the products!
Fix
Is your object still repairable? So all is not lost, even if the legal warranty has expired! Take it to one of the specialized shops or repair it yourself by obtaining information via specialized repair sites, tutorial videos or through the advice of your loved ones.
The number : 38% of French people have their electrical and electronic devices repaired regularly (MTES)
Give
Your object is still in working order but you want to get rid of it? To do this, you can give it to an association or to one of your relatives.
barter
We often tend to think that barter is outdated. However, this exchange is an ideal solution to acquire new equipment without spending a penny! Many websites, associations and applications offer to connect different profiles, often close to home!
Recycle
If none of the solutions presented are possible, then recycle it. Most of our everyday products have a logo, called tri-info, telling you how to sort.
Good to know : electronic and electrical equipment and bulbs need to be dropped off at the store.
