In the 12/13 of France 3, the journalist and doctor Damien Mascret explains, on set, how to detect if one suffers from heart failure.

Health Insurance is launching a campaign this week to encourage screening for heart failure. This disease is much more common than you might think. Thus, in the Health Insurance databases, there are more than 846,000 patients diagnosed with heart failure, “while there are probably a million and a half in France”, according to journalist and doctor Damien Mascret. This means that more than 600,000 people unknowingly have heart failure, a fatigued heart.

To detect heart failure, you simply have to spot the first symptoms. There are four of them, explains Damien Mascret: “First the shortness of breath, at the slightest effort and sometimes even when you are lying down. The rapid weight gain, a few kilos in a few days. It’s water retention, there’s a little in the lungs, it makes you cough. Leg edema, often it starts with swollen ankles. And intense fatigue.”
