The countries of Southeast Asia are experiencing an unprecedented heatwave. On Monday, May 20, it was close to 48 degrees in the suburbs of New Delhi, India, a heat that makes many activities impossible.
How will India survive global warming? The country continues to see temperatures rise and heat waves become more pronounced. From the start of spring, the mercury reached over 45 degrees in places, which is abnormally high for the season. In the south of the country, the first heat records were reached in several cities: 45.9 degrees in the middle of April. And even at night, temperatures do not drop below 30 degrees. All the inhabitants are looking for the slightest corner of shade or an air-conditioned place.
So, on the main roads at the main crossroads of a city, the authorities installed makeshift shelters. All means are good to try to reduce the heat. This heat is particularly difficult to live with for those who work outside, like those who drive tuk-tuks. In hospitals, emergency services welcome people sick from heat. Those who suffer the most from this climatic phenomenon are often the most deprived. Tap water is also unfit for consumption, so you have to buy it in a bottle, which is a luxury for many residents.
