How to clean and prepare your vehicle in the spring?

Winter is finally behind us and it’s now time to clean, decontaminate and protect your vehicle. Accumulated calcium, dirt, dust, contaminants and others have not spared the bodywork and interior of your vehicle in recent months. Now is the time to make it shine again.

This week on the show Guide de l’auto on QUB Radio, we talked about car aesthetics. Antoine Joubert and Germain Goyer spoke with François Bonneville, owner of the Center de Formation Esthétique automobile du Québec.

What can be easily done at home?

Obviously, not all motorists have all the resources necessary to refurbish their car. However, it is possible to carry out certain tasks yourself and at low cost, as explained by François Bonneville. He recommends, first, to remove the calcium from the passenger compartment. “To remove salt and calcium, it takes a good rinse with hot water. We will have to vacuum everything properly afterwards, ”he specifies.

The vacuum cleaner will also allow you to remove dust, crumbs and rocks that have accumulated over time.

As for the bodywork, François Bonneville recommends “using specialized acid-based products to remove brake dust on the bodywork […] and continue the decontamination with a clay paste”. Unsurprisingly, he is of the opinion that a pressure machine is a handy tool. It eliminates as much dirt as possible during the rinsing stage, before starting to scrub, while reducing the risk of scratches.

Do we have to spend astronomical sums on cleaning products?

Department and specialty stores have an array of vehicle care products and it’s easy to get lost. During the interview, François Bonneville debunked the myth of the price.

Indeed, marketing and brand image are two predominant factors in winning over a buyer. To this end, he affirms “that we are not obliged to buy the most expensive. Lower-end or private label products, sometimes made in Quebec, are often excellent. »

Do not wax your vehicle in the sun

After rinsing, washing and drying your vehicle, it may be wise to apply a wax to the bodywork. However, it must be done in the right conditions to obtain optimal results. “You should not wax your vehicle in the sun. Some products will dry too quickly. The wax should not be applied to the moldings. There are now several spray waxes available,” says Bonneville.

In addition to car detailing services, François Bonneville also offers training.
