It is one of the flagship products of the holidays: champagne. They are found at almost all prices and that is not always a guarantee of quality. How to choose well: brut, classic, vintage, first price?
In the holiday whirlwind, it is the sparkling note, symbol of a well-deserved sharing. Champagne and its almost endless choice of bottles, to make your head spin. Price, sugar, vintage, how to choose the right champagne? A more or less sweet taste is often the first request of customers. And for that, there is a clue on the bottle: the dosage of added sugars.
Sugar is not the only criterion. Olivier Bonville is the fourth generation to produce champagne. “We produce 140,000 bottles of champagne per year, around 20% are vintage. These vintages are chosen according to the characteristics of maturity and weather of the year”, explains Olivier Bonville, “Franck Bonville Champagne” winemaker. The vintage bottle is 100% grapes from the same year without mixing, with three years of aging in the cellar, twice as much as for a classic champagne. To find the rare pearl, do not hesitate to order directly from the producers. Many good champagnes at low prices are not offered in supermarkets.
