In Pau, a gynecologist refused to treat a trans woman. How can we better accommodate these patients? Elements of response with Anaïs Perrin-Prévelle, the co-president of the OUTrans association.
In Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), a gynecologist refused to see a trans woman who was waiting in the waiting room for chest pain. The practitioner claimed that he “didn’t care about men, but real women”. “Unfortunately, this story is our daily life”assures Anaïs Perrin-Prévelle, the co-president of the OUTrans association, who specifies that these remarks fall within the “transphobia”.
“It’s common law”
Asked about the consequences on the health of trans people, the guest answers: “In the Paris region, we have around 10,000 active general practitioners. There are around thirty who agree to take care of trans people”. “All doctors must take care of trans people. This is common law. All trans people must be able to see any doctor, regardless of their location”says Anaïs Perrin-Prévelle.
